FAQ

What does “Concrete Academic” mean?

There is too much potential for metaphorical play to limit the meaning to a single answer. What does it mean to you?

How can I get in on the discussion?

  1. Be a commenter. Concrete Academic is a community of active minds, so the posts are just the beginning. We want to hear what you have to say, and see where the conversation leads. Threaded comments, powered by IntenseDebate, allow for specific responses and open-ended debate. Smart commenters may write guest posts to better articulate their position and begin the debate anew.
  2. Be a contributing writer. If it’s clear that you’ve got something to say and commenting is too limiting for your sagacity and intellectual acuity, you may be invited to write for us. See our submission policy below.

Do I have to register to comment?

Not at present. But registering with IntenseDebate (or OpenID, or Facebook) allows you to comment under a unique user name and be a part of the ConcreteAcademic.com community. You can get comment email notification, perhaps write guest posts, and other exciting yet unrevealed perks. IntenseDebate has a number of cool features you should check out.

What should I know before I comment?

  • Make sure you’ve read carefully before responding.
  • Spamming or advertising is prohibited. Links in your signature line are fine as long as the content is inoffensive.
  • Comments may be deleted and users may be banned for offensive remarks or material.
  • Please use the Report button to flag inappropriate comments; they will be reviewed by CA staff. Don’t abuse it, though. We want to participate in the debate, not referee it. It’s our mutual prerogative to make discussions and disagreements progressive.

  3. Art and poetry will be accepted with First- or One-Time rights.
  4. There is no minimum limit for written work. A couple of thought-provoking sentences can instigate interesting discussion.

  6. All submissions are subject to copy-editing, but please review your work carefully; we are not presently staffed for full editing services. 9. When writing on others’ published work, including books, articles, blogs, etc., be careful to observe Fair Use law or Creative Commons. Note that weblog posts may fall under modified terms due to their length. Include URL’s when possible.
  10. Third-party audio and video may be embedded, but original work must be displayed using CA’s YouTube channel, and become property of CA. Other agreements may be made in certain circumstances.
